LOVE AND BONDS
The Silent Struggles of Working Mothers: Separation, Breastfeeding, and Weaning.
Motherhood is truly an amazing hard journey that is God given to the female species filled with joy, love, pain and countless sacrifices. Mothers are indeed a big blessings to the world, playing a very important role, Gods masterpieces, made to nurture God’s creation, mandated to take charge and bring order for the sake of his creation.
It is a tough role that comes with its every day challenges and every mother can testify to that ,with one of the most heart-wrenching challenges many mothers face today being the need to separate from their children to go make a living for them, because society has come to that, and most of the time the woman has have to take charge.
This transition is never easy, especially when a baby is still breastfeeding and relies heavily on their mother’s presence. It is something that has truly shaken the law of nature with mothers have to go back to work as early as 3 months after birth leaving the baby in the hands of total strangers most of the time.
The struggle of balancing a career and motherhood is an emotional rollercoaster on its own, the separation sucks but sometimes it is necessary because those small mouths cant feed themselves until later on so someone has to take charge.
So every day may come differently overwhelming moments will arise but the love always overcomes it all.sometimes we are filled with so much love and sometimes we are filled with so much guilt for not doing enough, plus the anxiety that comes with providing for them, and the exhaustion each day that never ends.
The Pain of Separation.
For many mothers, returning to work after maternity leave feels like leaving a piece of their heart behind. The first day of separation is often the hardest, a 3 month old baby surely needs its mother but most mums don't have so much say in it they got bills to pay so they got to go. Its clearly such a tiny person to let go so early and there is an overwhelming sense of guilt, questioning whether the decision to work is the right one. Will the child feel abandoned? Will they miss their mother’s touch, scent, and comfort? Most of the time we are living our children in the hands of strangers so crazy thoughts will come, thoughts that constantly race through a mother’s mind. The postpartum rollercoaster just adds salt to it all with mothers having to fight a lot of mixed emotions.
Beyond the emotional pain, there is also the challenge of logistics. Finding a trustworthy caregiver or daycare is a struggle. The fear of whether the baby will be properly cared for adds to the stress. The anxiety of being away often affects a mother’s productivity at work, making it difficult to focus while constantly wondering how their little one is coping.
For me my dream has always been to be able to work from home, just to be able to be around for him more to ensure he is developing in love and doing the right things by him. Most mothers are choosing this way too, opting to be indoors as a mum means juggling raising a baby and working which comes with its own challenges too.
The Breastfeeding Dilemma
For breastfeeding mothers, the struggle intensifies, with questions on when is the right time to get him off my chest, which is the best month or years for a baby to stop breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding is not just about nourishment it’s a deep emotional connection between mother and child its what cements the relationship they build together along the way so when work demands a mother’s presence elsewhere, maintaining this bond becomes challenging.
Pumping at work becomes a necessity, but it is not always easy. Not all workplaces provide a comfortable and private space for mothers to express milk. Some women are forced to pump in restrooms or poorly equipped rooms, making the experience stressful and discouraging not forgetting the society mentality towards public breastfeeding.
As a society we ought to ensure that mothers are well taken care of in all public places, there should be a baby changing area in every public place like literally for who else are we building this world for if not for them.
The fear of a decreasing milk supply is another worry, as stress and irregular pumping can affect production causing your child to miss out on this vital stage of life turning into artificial supplements ain't a healthy road either so it is best we ensure the process is successful.
Additionally, storing and transporting breast milk safely is another hurdle. Some mothers have to carry coolers to ensure the milk remains fresh until they return home. The process is physically and emotionally draining, often leaving mothers feeling exhausted by the end of the day,not forgetting the stains and the smell fresh breast milk.
The Emotional Weaning Process.
At some point, every mother has to introduce their baby to solid foods and gradually wean them off breast milk. This transition can be both physically and emotionally and financially and mentally challenging.
For a mother who is already struggling with separation, the thought of completely letting go of breastfeeding can be heartbreaking in letting go of the bond. As a mother I am currently going through this transition my self and I can testify that it is not a bed of roses, its proving harder than I thought but am letting the process flow.
Babies often resist change, and my son is so into breast milk its not looking like he is going let go any time soon, but weaning is the way out for us now though it will come with tears, fussiness, and sleepless nights it has to be done at some point.
A mother may feel torn between wanting to comfort her child and knowing that weaning is necessary, which is normal, what matters is the baby's health, Some will do 9 months some go up to 3 years what matters is that the process requires patience, emotional strength, and the right balance of emotional peace because this is the time a mother is literally giving life to another human being.
The Strength of a Mother
Despite the struggles, as mothers we push forward, driven by love and determination to give our children the best always. At some point you learn how to adapt, we learn how to adjust to the hardships that come with it and with the technology blessing a lot of tasks has been simplified for us making it easy to find ways to balance work and nurturing God’s creation, So breastfeeding, and the weaning process might be tough but we are the toughest species so far so we soldier on, we run the creation, we literally run this world so all a mother ever needs to thrive is the support of her family, employers, and society at large to ensure we have sane mothers who are raising a sane generation.
Motherhood is not about perfection but about resilience and love, we all might stubble here and there but we still pour out love, at the end of the day every working mother will face this struggle, the important part is to know you are not alone, we feel the feelings, we learn as we go ,we heal and rectify we love and we nurture because we have a job to do, so we do it regardless. The tears, the sacrifices, and the sleepless nights are proof of a mother’s strength and unwavering love for her children.
So let's give Mothers all over the world all the grace heavens have to offer, help a mother today, love a mother, fight for a mother, wherever you can, because by doing that you will be playing your part in raising God's generation and that's how he blesses you.
So Cheers to all the mothers doing the most they can.May God hold you in his grace and may your children be your strength.
